It looks like we're going to have a very interesting two months up to the Presidential elections on November 4th. First off, register to vote. If you're an expat, check out [votefromabroad.org] They can help you get your absentee ballot. If you live in the USA, go to [register-vote.com].
Women - [do not take your right to vote for granted]. My mother just forwarded me an email about what the suffragettes went through. They were imprisoned, maligned, and even tortured. In 1920 after a long struggle the 19th amendment was passed and women finally got the right to vote.
> Under orders from W. H. Whittaker, superintendent of the Occoquan Workhouse, as many as forty guards with clubs went on a rampage, brutalizing thirty-three jailed suffragists. They beat Lucy Burns, chained her hands to the cell bars above her head, and left her there for the night. They hurled Dora Lewis into a dark cell, smashed her head against an iron bed, and knocked her out cold. Her cellmate Alice Cosu, who believed Mrs. Lewis to be dead, suffered a heart attack. According to affidavits, other women were grabbed, dragged, beaten, choked, slammed, pinched, twisted, and kicked. The Daily Show coverage has been *awesome* and I have enjoyed watching the full episodes. Here are some amazingly wonderful clips about Sarah Palin.

* [Samantha Bee finding choice]
* [Samantha Bee goes with Sarah Pailn as they both are women]
In all seriousness though, I'm offended at the Sarah Palin pick. It was a complete pandering to women and dissatisfied Hillary voters. [It seems to have backfired though]. There are tons and tons of rumors swirling around the internet about her and while they're juicy and play to the lowest common denominator in all of us, I really think she's wrong ON THE ISSUES. Also, she's a liar. There, I said it. In fact, both her and McCain are liars. It's disappointing to see them blatantly lie like they do, but that's what they're doing. It's nice to see the [MSM actually saying that they're lying as well]. It's not ["stretching the truth" or "misremembering the details"]. It seems like the teflon coating that the Republican party has been used to for the past eight years is flaking off as much as the one on my pot. One can't help but be a little bemused because the press wonders how they think they can get away with it? Well, the press hasn't been doing their job and calling the Republicans out on their lies and using that powerful word for the past eight years, so of course they think they can get away with it. The Argentine News Site, Perfil.com has a page dedicated to the ["100 Kirchner Lies"]. An expat journalist, Taos Tuner, has a [good write up of media's reluctance to use the word lie].
Speaking of getting away with things. Palin [won't be answering press questions] for at least a week or two. [She's got to go study up]. Now, living in Argentina as I do, I recently learned that a sitting president hasn't had a press conference in five years before one held in July this year. That's quite different than the expectations in the United States. Taos had several write ups about that as well.

If all we have to learn about a person running for the second highest office in the USA and potentially the first if something happens to the oldest person running for President ever, is her speeches, what do they say about her? She's quick witted, tells cute stories, lies, holds values that are completely contrary to mine, ie - wants to take away women's right to chose abortion (even in the case of rape and incest), belittles people who get involved in making their community better, believes that the Iraq War is God's Will, and doesn't have the right temperament to hold that much power. I believe she doesn't have the experience, or more importantly the knowledge to do the job. Hell, [she even said as much], a couple of weeks prior to her pick... Or, you can go by the words of [someone who knows her from Wasilla].
