Pangea Day at KONEX
This Saturday is [Pangea Day][2] all across the globe. It is playing here in Buenos Aires at the Konex Cultural Center. I'm going and bringing some friends along. Should be a really interesting and hopefully powerful event. Jehane Noujaim proposed the idea at her [TED talk in 2006][3] and it has become a reality.
> **What is Pangea Day?**
Pangea Day taps the power of film to strengthen tolerance and compassion while uniting millions of people to build a better future.
In a world where people are often divided by borders, difference, and conflict, it's easy to lose sight of what we all have in common. Pangea Day seeks to overcome that — to help people see themselves in others — through the power of film.
On May 10, 2008 — Pangea Day — sites in Cairo, Kigali, London, Los Angeles, Mumbai, and Rio de Janeiro will be linked live to produce a program of powerful films, visionary speakers, and uplifting music.
The program will be broadcast live to the world through the Internet, television, digital cinemas, and mobile phones.
Of course, movies alone can't change the world. But the people who watch them can. So following May 10, 2008, Pangea Day organizers will facilitate community-building activities around the world by connecting inspired viewers with numerous organizations that are already doing groundbreaking work.
Where? Ciudad Cultural Konex, Buenos Aires, Argentina
When? Saturday, 3 pm.
What? They're going to show the festival, live.
How? Free
I first found out about Pangea Day because I was contacted by some film-makers. They asked to used [one of my photos][4] about racism in [their film][5]. I said yes. Their film did not make the cut, but that's okay, I found out about the event! The photo I took was from Monroe School in Topeka, Kansas. That school was the school that launched Brown vs. Board of Education. We visited in the summer of 2006 on our trip across the United States. The school has been turned into a museum and visiting was a powerful experience. I just have to agree with this other photo I took in Toronto, Canada: [Racism Sucks][6]. Maybe Pangea Day can help with that somehow. It's not easy, but I think every little positive action helps. You should [check out showings and see if there's one near you][7] and GO!
