I first heard about the [one(s) in the Mediterranean that severed Egypt's connection][5]. Then one(s) in the Persian Gulf, one near Malaysia, [a lot of China just got cut off][6] and now there are rumors of an electric cable being severed between North and South New Zealand. WTF is going on? From the dates and locations it looks like someone started in the Mediterranean and headed east slowly but surely. Now cut cables seem to be a sort of normal occurrance - there are at [least 25 ships in the world][7] dedicated to fixing this problem. The [conspiracy theorists are having a field day][8] trying to answer the question that is bugging me - what is going on? My cynical answer is that they are being cut so that people can tap into them in *other* locations away from the cuts and have that work go undetected. It could all just be a coincidence, but I don't think so. Others think that the US/Israel is trying to isolate the Middle East (notice that Israel's connection is just fine). Still other's think that nefarious people/groups/what-have-you are trying to stop [Iran's Oil Bourse][9] from opening up. Still other's think that [monsters are to blame][10]. I really don't know what to make of all of this, but I really hope it stops before the cables to South America are hit. As I'm writing this, our internet is getting flaky. Co-in-ki-dink? you tell me...
