You can see [more photos here][5]. This will allow us to look for a long-term rental in November, so that we can hopefully move in December 1. This will also allow us to play host to friends who are visiting in a little over a week from Princeton and then more friends who are visiting over Thanksgiving from Illinois & New York. Yay! I'm so glad that people are taking us up on our offer of hospitality and making the journey down here.

This place has a balcony, which almost a must-have here in Buenos Aires in the high rise apartments. We will be able to grow our own basil. Yum! :D It's only about 5 blocks away from our current place, but it is now closer to the Subte, the train & bus stations. Unfortunately, the balcony faces north, so we will neither be able to see the sunrise over the Rio or the sunset to the west. I'll be interested to see what I can see though. The evening glow of the light on the train lines, the shanty town on the other side of the train tracks and the shipping port was really beautiful this evening.

Kragen was sick last week and I stayed well, long enough to nurse him back to somewhat of a healthy state, and then I fell victim to the flu. I've been sick since Saturday, when I started to feel tired and had a sore throat. The symptoms progressed through the week, and included a fever, a sore throat, coughing, plugged up ears and the occasional sneeze. For the first time, I [gargled with cayenne pepper][6], and while that scared me, it actually wasn't that bad and got rid of my sore throat pretty effectively. Then also ate/drank a lot of consumé soup with more cayenne pepper and hot tea with lots of slices of ginger in them. I would have had lemons as well, but there's a lemon shortage. ::shakes fist at price controls:: While they worked for a bit, the cold/flu whatever it is, wasn't going away and I was steadily feeling worse each day. So, Wednesday, I caved and let Kragen buy me antibiotics. I seem to be getting better on a 3xdaily dose of _Cafalexina Argentina_. For the time being we can buy antibiotics over the counter here, although the pharmacist said that the laws will be changing soon and that people will have to go to doctor to get a scrip. A woman at the pharmacy balked and quipped that people take antibiotics like they drink water here, there might be a general strike!

I've been paying sort of attention to USA politics and am not liking what I'm hearing about Bush saying he [might just start WWIII][7] if Iran dares to possess the knowledge of nuclear bomb-making?!?! Is he bat-sh*t crazy??? Besides the fact that Pakistan already has the knowledge and oh yeah, sold it to the highest bidder on the black-market and we let them say, "oh sorry, my bad". [We can deal with that, but not Iran?][8] Pakistan are our allies, oh right, my bad, I forgot.... Also, I *so* did not find _even remotely funny_ his (hopefully just a) joke about thinking about ways to stay in power indefinitely. From a [White House press conference 10/17/07][9]:

> Q Mr. President, following up on Vladimir Putin for a moment. He said recently that next year when he has to step down, according to the constitution, as President, he may become Prime Minister, in effect keeping power and dashing any hopes for a genuine democratic transition there. Senator McCain --

THE PRESIDENT: **I've been planning that myself. (Laughter.)**

Q Senator McCain said yesterday, when he looks into Putin's eyes, he sees a K, a G and a B, and he would never have invited --

THE PRESIDENT: Pretty good line.

Q And he would never have invited him to Kennebunkport. And he said it's time we got a little tough with Vladimir Putin. I'm wondering if you think -- is Senator McCain right? And what would it mean for Russian democracy **if, when you leave power, assuming you do, in January 2009 -- (laughter) --** if Vladimir Putin is still in power?

hahahahaha NOT funny dude.
