[Floralis Generica by night][3]

It's raining. Again. There's lightening and thunder and sometimes they're right on top of each other. Coming from California, I'm not used to this very much. When there's lightening and thunder that means that there is a HUGE winter storm. Not so much here. It just is part of the rain. Today was overcast and windy and I knew that rain was in the forecast for Tuesday, but it started early, around 10:00 pm on Monday night. I was just finishing up shooting some night photos with my new tripod. I'm pretty damn pleased with the results. This photograph is of the [Floralis Generica][5], which is a ten meter tall sculpture made by the Argentine sculptor Eduardo Catalano. Whoa - two of my photos are on that wikipedia page and *I* didn't put them there. :D It opens up during the day and then closes up at night, just like a real flower. I was able to sweet talk my way into the UN park, which had just closed, and take some photos of the flower. When I left, I palmed the security guard a 10 peso note (~U$3). That's the first time I've ever done that. He was surprised, but happy. So, it wasn't really a bribe, but a thank you.....
I'm slowly getting used to life here in Buenos Aires again. Things move slowly and I find myself just going with the flow on that. I might get frustrated later, but right now, I'm more frustrated with our own snail's pace than other people's. We have an appointment with the immigration lawyer we are going to hire after talking with two lawyers a couple of weeks ago. I still need to make better contact with the customs agents so we can coordinate shipping our stuff (only 11 boxes) from San Francisco. We need to get our documents translated, but think we're going to go with the translators of our immigration lawyer because the other quote we got was really high. We confirmed that we don't have to live outside the city! YAY. We had mis-heard about getting fast-tracked for permanent residency if you live outside of Buenos Aires. It's not just outside of Buenos Aires, we would have to live 50 kms from the Argentine boarder and open a business there to strengthen the boarder of Argentina. We're not going to do that.
We have come up with a plan for the next couple of months. We're going to rent another one-bedroom apartment from late October through mid November and then rent a two bed room short term rental so we can be good hosts when our guests come for Thanksgiving. No need to rent a two bedroom apartment for a whole month when we're the only one's who will be there. This will give us more time to scout locations around Buenos Aires. The northeastern part of the city is where most of the ex-pat's live. The barrios are all really nice: Recoleta, Barrio Norte, Belgrano, Palermo, and even San Telmo. But, they are more expensive and more full of tourists and hotels and such. I'm interested in more central Barrios: Almagro, Caballito, Boedo and possibly Flores. So, this way, we get to spend some time in the next month or so scouting out places that we can then move into without feeling like we *have* to move into a place *right away* because we're desperate. While this sort of isn't to my liking, as I really want to settle down and have our *own* place again, this also appeals to me because we won't be rushed into anything.
There's so much more to write about, but this is long as it is. I'll save it for another entry. As a reminder to myself....
