[Paisleychick-lj] More catching up from Valparaiso, Chile

On Monday, the 19th, we caught the 19:00 bus from Santiago and arrived in Valparaiso around 21:00. Kragen got us a place to stay at 18:40. I was stressing a bit - but he came through with two nights at "La Nona Bed and Breakfast" René runs the place with his novia Daniela. Basically, it is his flat and he lives in the back room and rents out the front three bedrooms to guests. We all share the bathroom, living room, and kitchen. Unemployment here is around 60%, so people make money any way they can. René is a generous soul and has been very helpful. The 20th was his 35th birthday. Feliz cumpleaños was sung.  
  
There's wifi here, so we have been able to be online, which is great. I've enjoyed chatting with friends online and interacting with people on Flickr. I spend so much time there and I still don't feel like I do enough WRT the group ["The World Through My Eyes"][5]. I wish I had more time to go through peoples' photo-streams instead of just looking at selected shots, but I now know so many people it's hard to keep up.  
  
Kragen and I took a lovely walk this afternoon around the hills of Valparaiso. Some incredible views of the port and older buildings. I saw one house being constructed on the hillside and a school getting some sort of remodeling/reconstruction done. The place is covered with colorful houses, which reminds me of La Boca in Buenos Aires. There are also lots of murals everywhere. They started this project a couple of years ago to revitalize the area so that tourists would come and visit and enjoy. I have had a lot of fun [finding the murals I did and checking them out, photographing them][6] and wondering who made them. Some of them are signed and even made them copyleft. It's cool!
