Beatrice has a new job! She wasn't looking, but this job lead for a
better-paying job within walking distance and working with French and
American charities just dropped into her lap. And she got accepted
today! This is wonderful!
Monday, I went over to my friend Becca's house to help her feed her
sick cat. She's pretty upset --- the cat may be terminally ill, which
makes her very sad.
I picked up an old friend of mine from the airport, which was nice ---
we got a chance to kind of catch up on things. He's in town for a
conference.
The Perseid meteor shower had its peak last night; unfortunately, San
Francisco was covered with fog, so I couldn't see any meteors from
home. So I went with Ping and Primrose to watch it from Mount
Tamalpais. The gate to go up into the park was locked (since it was
after sunset), and unfortunately I never did learn to pick locks, so
we parked in front of the gate with all the other cars and walked up
the hill until we found a nice meadow where we could watch. We told
stories of princesses chained to rocks and enjoyed the show.
It wasn't nearly as good as the Leonid shower Beatrice and I watched
in November, but it was still pretty cool.

Edsger Wybe Dijkstra died in August of 2002. This is a terrible loss to the
